When you show your gums while talking or laughing, this is known as a 'Gummy Smile'. This is not a learned behavior, but something you are born with. Visible gums can be the result of an overactive muscle in the upper lip. Botulinum toxin can temporarily deactivate this muscle, keeping the lip down when speaking or laughing. The lowered lip covers the gums, making them less visible. The treatment maintains its effect for three to four months. Because this treatment is not suitable for everyone, a consultation is required.

WHAT TO DO AFTER TREATMENT?

At Lana Skyn we advise you to follow the following guidelines after your Botox treatment for the best results:

  • Avoid lying down or bending over for 4 hours after treatment.

  • After 6 hours you may wash the treated area with soap and water.

  • Do not apply makeup earlier than 6 hours after the treatment.

  • Wait until 24 hours after the Botox treatment before exercising.

  • Do not massage or apply pressure to treated areas for a week.

  • Avoid facial treatments such as peels and laser therapy for two weeks.

  • Protect the treated areas against extreme temperatures such as sauna, spa, hammam and intense sun for two weeks.

  • Use paracetamol for pain and avoid aspirin-containing medicines.

  • Protect your skin daily with a sunscreen with SPF 30 and moisturize well
